GENTILE Michael Paul, age 72, was welcomed into the Lord’s loving arms on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Mike believed in faith, family, and working hard to achieve one’s dream. He took his responsibilities seriously and always provided for his family. Michael was lovingly cared for by his wife Laurie (Gregerson) Gentile. He savored the precious time he had with her and his stepson Garrett Sharp, cheering on the Bellbrook Marching Band, travelling, and enjoying concerts.
Michael was born on September 25, 1948 to James and Dorothy (Cain) Gentile, Sr. He grew up in Hamilton, Ohio with his three brothers and had fond memories of playing baseball in the neighborhood.
After graduating from Hamilton Catholic High School, he attended Ohio University and met his wife Marjorie. Married in 1969, Michael graduated from Ohio University with a business degree, earning his CPA in 1972. They were blessed with two children Steve (Gina) Gentile and Jennifer (Mark) Gunton; grandchildren: Jacob (Tessa), Tyler, and Evan Gentile, Liesl and Kiera Kuschnerus, and Drew and Monica Gunton; and 1 great-grandchild: Amelia Gentile. Michael truly appreciated his family and instilled wisdom, responsibility, and humor in their lives. He was very generous and an overall example of integrity.
In his career, Michael was a respected Certified Public Accountant who served his small business clients for 49 years with excellence, high standards, and ethics. He worked as a self-employed accountant and with Bradstreet & Co. Mike was a peer reviewer of Ohio CPA firms, and served on advisory committees for the Ohio Society of CPAs, as an instructor at accounting seminars, and taught and wrote course materials for the Society.
Mike believed in serving the community by volunteering as a youth sports coach, the Huber Heights Jaycees, and the Centerville Athletic Boosters. Mike was active in the Centerville Rotary club for many years, and was honored to serve as President from 1999-2000. Mike’s faith journey strengthened and grew over the years as he sought a personal relationship with Christ. He readily volunteered at church and made personal connections with the people he met. He enjoyed the bible studies at Hope United Methodist Church and valued their support while caregiving for Marge; he gained wisdom through his participation in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF); and experienced the Spirit in the messages he was able to hear online from Fairhaven Church in the past year.
Mike enjoyed many laughs with his friends while bowling, playing cards, and on the golf course. An avid golfer, he challenged himself to improve, enjoyed the comradeship with friends, and the beauty of the courses. His family will remember him fondly for his attention to detail, his honesty, and his love for storytelling.
Michael is preceded in death by first wife Marjorie (Roudebush) Gentile and his father, James Gentile Sr. He is survived by his wife Laurie Gentile; his mother, Dorothy Gentile; his siblings, James (Jan) Gentile Jr., John Gentile, and Kevin (Carol) Gentile; children and grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family thanks the doctors and nursing staff from Ohio Hospice of Dayton for their care.
Visitation will be held Mon. April 26 from 6-8PM at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471
Far Hills Ave., Dayton OH and the Memorial Service will be held Tues. April 27 at 10AM at Fairhaven Church 637 E. Whipp Road., Centerville OH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ohio Hospice of Dayton.
