Mary Ellen Toerner

TOERNER, Mary Ellen, age 87, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014 after a short illness. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on February 3, 1927, to the late George and Ellen (Kiley) Tegge. On January 3, 1953, she married Paul Toerner who preceded her in death, and also preceded by her three brothers, Bill, George and Tom Tegge. She is survived by her six children, Jim (Debbie) Toerner of Beavercreek, Tony (Teresa) Toerner of Kettering, Rose (Rick) Madura of Kettering, Joe (Rob) Toerner of Washington, D.C., Dave (Mary) Toerner of Cincinnati, George (Laura) Toerner of Chicago; six grandchildren, Mandy, Nick, Mike, Mark, John, Greta and four great-grandchildren, Clyde, Claire, Audrey and Sam; one sister, Sara Meyer; four sisters-in law, Ann Toerner-Rich, Kathy (John) Kennedy, Marguerite Tegge, and Elaine Tegge; and one brother-in-law, Tom (Mary) Toerner. She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and a member of The Church of The Holy Angels Catholic Church. Mary Ellen loved crochet and was known in the family for making blankets and bed spreads for any family member who got married. She also enjoyed playing the ukuleles with the Ukulelians, a group of senior citizens who played gigs at various venues. Mary Ellen enjoyed life to the fullest. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Centerville, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at The Church of the Holy Angels, 218 K St., Dayton, Ohio, 45409 at 10:00 a.m.; Father Greg Konerman officiating.
