Mary M. Sorensen (nee Berz), 78, of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away peacefully Sunday, August 6, 2023. She was born February 16, 1945, in Georgetown, Ohio and was the youngest of five children born to Carmel and Nellie Berz. Mary grew up in Georgetown where she excelled in her scholastic endeavors. In May of 1963 she made one of the outstanding grades in the history of Georgetown High School on the annual Ohio scholarship tests and graduated valedictorian. Following graduation she moved to Dayton, Ohio to follow a career in Civil Service at Wright-Patterson AFB. There she worked as an intelligence analyst in the Foreign Technology Division (FTD). In 1965 she met and married Lt. Richard Sorensen. She paused her civil service career to raise her family of two daughters, Candace and Vanessa, and a son, Richard. Also, during this period, she enrolled at Wright State University where she earned her undergraduate degree in History. She then returned to civil service and worked at the National Aerospace and Intelligence Center (NASIC) until her retirement in 2016. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with family. She will be remembered for her love of animals (especially her cat, Ocho) and her beautiful garden. She also greatly enjoyed lavishing her love and attention on her two grandsons, Nicholas and Lucas Amarel.
Mary (Mindy) is survived by two daughters, Candace (Tony) and Vanessa (George), son, Richard, grandsons, Nicholas and Lucas, former husband Richard J Sorensen, brother Carl Berz, and extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents Carmel and Nellie Berz, brother Carmel Berz, sisters Mildred Peterson and Gladys Honigsberg, and beloved dog Fuzz.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-Beavercreek Chapel.
