Of Beavercreek, a long-time member of the Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene, passed away at her home on June 26 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born at the family home in Portsmouth, Ohio, on October 23, 1925. She was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Minnie Lowe, brothers Jesse and Ralph Lowe, and the love of her life, her husband of 43 years, Harold (Jim) Hickman. Mary leaves to cherish her memory daughters Cindy (Bob) French and Lynn Hickman (Gary) Long, grandsons Lucas French and Brandon (Whitney) Long, and 3 great grandchildren, and a dedicated, loving sister Minnie Opal Ramey of Beaver, Ohio. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews: David, Cathy (John), Melanie (Cliff), Elaine (Michael), Makaela (Clint). Mary graduated from Beaver High School in Pike County, Ohio. She earned her teaching certificate from Rio Grande College and completed post graduate work at Central State University. She taught at Beaver and Stockdale Schools in Pike County and Miamisburg City Schools. She spent the majority of her career teaching for Beavercreek City Schools at Main and Valley Elementaries. She possessed a joy for cooking and a wonderful talent for creating delicious recipes for family and friends. Being the consummate bargain hunter, Mary, along with her beloved grandson Lucas, enjoyed visiting area yard and garage sales to find inexpensive collectibles. Her zest for living was undeniable. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to The Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University, Glioblastoma Research, Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710. Friends may call at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, on July 1 from 10:00-11:00 am with a celebration of life beginning at 11:00 am. Interment in Beaver Union Cemetery in Pike County, Ohio.
