Mark received his BS and MS of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn. They married in 1991 and were blessed with two beautiful daughters, who Mark considered his greatest achievement.
Mark was the Principal Director of Project West Wing Strategic Global & Awareness Directorate Defense System Group at the Aerospace Corporation. During his career he received numerous awards and recognition for his incredible work ethic, merit, and integrity, notably the Shaping the Future HERO Award, the Aerospace President’s Achievement Award, Outstanding Civilian Achievement Award, the National Intelligence Council award for Outstanding Achievement, the NAIC Commander’s Team Award for Merit, the NAIC Silver Bullet Award for outstanding service, the National Intelligence Council Medallion for Achievement, and multiple performance recognition awards. He served his nation for more than 30 years and was considered an expert and leader in his field.
Mark was an avid sailor and enjoyed spending his free time at Rocky Fork Lake on his sailboat, Oasis, with his family and his friends from the Rocky Fork Sailing Club. He enjoyed traveling around the world with his wife and daughters, where he showed them the world through his eyes. He loved to go fishing with his brothers-in-law and son-in-law and played golf in a league at WPAFB with his friends from work. Mark was intelligent and savvy. There wasn’t a problem he couldn’t solve, nor an item he couldn’t fix. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband and father whose presence will be forever missed. A quote by Saint Therese inspired him to live his life to the fullest with integrity and honor; “The world's thy ship, and not thy home.” Although his Earthly vessel sailed on far too soon, his family and friends find peace knowing that it has taken him to his final destination of eternal life with the Lord. His family will receive friends at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45429, on Tuesday, May 16 from 4:00-7:00 pm.
