Kurt was born in Boone, Iowa on July 24, 1968 and graduated from Boone High School in 1986. He enlisted in the Army after high school, and—in a pattern that would persist throughout his life—he chose to confront his fear of heights head-on by joining the 82nd Airborne. After serving 4 years in the Army and achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant, he enrolled at the University of Iowa where he was a member of the Sigma Epsilon fraternity. He graduated in 1996 with a degree in Psychology and embarked on a career in sales, most recently with Revolution EHR. Kurt was passionate about his work, and in the latter stages of his career found the most satisfaction in mentoring newer sales professionals and sharing his experience for the benefit of others.
Kurt met the love of his life, Annie, in Portland, Oregon. Annie and Kurt married in 2005 and moved to Oakwood, Ohio in 2006 to be near family as they started a family of their own. Their daughter Izzie was born in 2007, followed by Lucy in 2012. Annie, Izzie, and Lucy were the center of Kurt’s world, and his entire purpose in life was loving and protecting them. Kurt was a “baby whisperer” when his girls were little, and he grew alongside them into a camper, a coach, a cheerleader, a listening ear, and everything else they needed him to be. Kurt was good at many things in his life, but he was at his best as a husband and father.
Kurt was quick to thank and help a veteran, tell a good tale, gather friends for fellowship, listen intently to the stories of everyone he met, and take the time later to follow up on whatever you told him. He loved generously, he was loved in return, and his loss leaves an empty space in the heart of everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Shirley Kline. He is survived by his wife Annie, daughters Izzie and Lucy, sister Dee (Dave, d.), brother John, in-laws Ron and Pat Dickerson, sisters-in-law Rhonda Anglim (Phil) and Krista Burnap (Dave), brother-in-law David Dickerson (Stephanie), nieces and nephews Jessica Sharman, Christopher Boyd (Allison), Jayson Kline (Holly), Tyler Kline (Christina), Mike Kline (Jessica), Erin Anglim, Tom Anglim, Elizabeth Ballinger (Robert), Andrew Dickerson (Erin O’Farrell), and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 am on April 14th at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 155 E Thruston Blvd, Dayton, OH 45419. A private interment with military honors will follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
