WILKENS, Joan Kuntz, was born March 19, 1933 in Dayton, Ohio, to Joseph A. and Marguerite R. (Beatty) Kuntz. Joan was the fifth of twelve children. Joan went home to the Lord on Saturday, December 13, 2014, surrounded by family. Joan attended grade school at St. Agnes in Dayton, and high school at Julienne, where she graduated in 1951. After graduation, she worked at People’s Bank and Peerless Transportation in Dayton as a bookkeeper. In 1955 she married Paul L Wilkens, also of Dayton, and then devoted herself to being a wife and Mom, caring for her husband and raising her family. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Paul of 56 years in 2011. Joan is survived by her son Paul L. Wilkens, Jr. (Heidi) of Centerville; daughters Lisa Shiley (Robert) of Fountain Valley, CA; Diane Medina (Ray) of Artesia, CA; Lynne Travis (Randy) of Kettering; Joan Martin (Ray) of Niceville, FL; and son Dr. Robert Wilkens (Michelle) of Washington Township. She was also survived by grandchildren Elizabeth Wilkens Fleming (Erik), John Paul Wilkens (Kelsie); Joseph and Susie Shiley; Michael and Ariel Medina; John Michael and Matt Husk; Mandalay and Raymond Martin; Bobby, Brucken, Paulie, Gracie, and Sammy Wilkens; great-grandchildren Braden and Addison Fleming; and numerous nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Joan was a charter member of St. Charles Parish in Kettering. She was also an avid bridge player and swimmer, who taught many adults and children to swim. She swam for several years for the Dayton Synchronettes, was active with her daughters in the Dayton Aquanymphs, and volunteered in several organizations.
