Janet Marie Pickrel

PICKREL, Janet Marie, age 97 of Dayton, passed away surrounded by family Sunday, March 12, 2017. Janet was born in Dayton to the late Ralph and Jeanette (nee Peters) Meyer. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Richard G. Pickrel Sr., dear sons, Richard M., Robert W., and Thomas R., and beloved sisters Patricia (Vern) Aurit, Eileen (Carl) Scarsdale, Mary (Robert) Daniszewski, and brother, Father William E. Meyer. She is survived by seven children, John Pickrel, Mary Pickrel, James (Connie) Pickrel, Beth (John) Tranovich, William (Leah) Pickrel, Cathy Pickrel, and Dan (Julie) Pickrel and daughter-in-laws Anne (Lyle) Hallum and Elaine Pickrel, 39 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren; beloved sister Joan (Rick) Waddell and sisters-in-law Anne Beatty (nee Pickrel), and Jean Pickrel; nieces and nephews; cousins, and treasured lifelong friends, Patricia Walsh, Buell Hoagland, and Bonnie Gerwitz. Janet was born at home on Lincoln Avenue, attended Corpus Christi Elementary School and graduated from Julienne High School. She worked as a switchboard operator at Good Samaritan Hospital, which led to meeting the love of her life and was the birthplace for all ten children. Touching lives was Janet’s lifetime occupation where the well-being of others was always paramount to her own. Her Catholic faith, patience, enduring inner-strength, and supportive kindness were a loving touchstone for family, friends, and acquaintances. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 pm March 19, 2017 at Tobias Funeral Home - Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45429. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Church of the Incarnation, 7415 Far Hills Ave., Centerville, Ohio 45459, with graveside service to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
