James V. Smith, of Kettering, Ohio passed away on August 23, 2019 at the age of 83. Jim served in the U.S. Army, with service in Korea (Korean war). He graduated from Chaminade High School, received his Bachelors' degree from the University of Dayton and his masters degree in Psychology from The Ohio State University. He retired from the Dayton City schools as a school psychologist. He was a member of Ascension Church for 51 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl & Elizabeth Smith; his brother-in-law Joe Stammen; and his wife of 44 years Ann Louise (Woodall) Smith. Jim is survived by his son Michael (Sandra) Smith of Cabot, AR; daughter Julie (Fred) Frank of Columbus, OH; daughter Jennifer (Robert) Gregory of Kettering, OH; brother Carl (Ginny) Smith of Bloomington, IN; Sister Betty Stammen of Waynesville, OH; Sister Sr. Marie Smith of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren: Maria (Dominic) Mazza, Lauren Frank, Natalie Frank, Stephen Frank, Jordan (Alex) Gregory, Madison Gregory, Kate Gregory, Paxon Gregory, Janna (Michael) Gibson, Susanna Gray, Clayton (Shelly) Yarnell; great-grandchildren: Ally Gibson, Zadie Gibson, Samuel Gray, Ethan Yarnell, Luca Mazza; Brothers-in-law: Br. Theophane (Fred) Woodall of Carthogena, OH, Nick Woodall of Kettering, OH: and multiple nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at Tobias Funeral Home 5471 Far Hills Avenue, Centerville, Ohio 45429, with a burial mass Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 10:30am at Ascension Catholic Church - 2025 Woodman Drive, kettering, OH 45420.
