MURPHY, James J. "J.J." age 91, of Kettering passed away quietly on Saturday, June, 18, 2016. "J.J." was born on April 30, 1925 to the late Tracy H. and Lillian D. Murphy in Barnesville, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mildred M. "Millie" Murphy. He is survived by his son Patrick (Betty) Murphy of Centerville, daughter Jennifer (Tim) Ketring of West Carrollton, granddaughters Colene Murphy, Tracy (Greg) Murphy and Shannon (Marc) Castellani and four great grandchildren, Peyton and Regan Murphy and Colin and Sophia Castellani. "J.J." was a 1943 graduate of Barnesville High School in Barnesville, Ohio where the notation under his senior picture stated: "He is fun to be with!" "J.J." had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and was not easily offended if the joke was on or about him. He often remarked he could always tell what era of his life he knew a person based on what they called him. In his early years back in Barnesville, everyone called him by his middle name, "Jerry". Once he began working at Standard Register in Dayton, everyone called him "Jim". In more recent years he was nicknamed "J.J." and that became the way he chose to introduce himself for the remainder of his life. "J.J." belonged to the Kettering American Legion and the V.F.W. and was faithful to sign in every day. He was a good father, a loving husband and hard worker, evidenced by the fact he always worked two jobs. In addition to being a Journeyman Pressman for the Standard Register Company, he and his son Patrick started a small offset printing company appropriately named "P&J Printing" which "J.J." and his wife Millie continued to run long into their retirement. On days when he wasn't working, he could be found camping and fishing with the family or attending local festivals with wife Millie. He took the family on a vacation every year and visited most of the lower 50 states and Canada, traveling in the early years with a trailer and in the retirement years in their camper.
