James W. “Pat” Doyle, Lt. Col USAF retired, age 82 of Beavercreek, died at Kettering Medical Center, November 16, 2014. He was born April 3, 1932, in Jacksonville, Illinois, the son of the late James W. Doyle, Sr. and Ruth Coultas Doyle. He was an aeronautical engineer, a graduate of Parks College (St Louis University), Stanford University and the University of Dayton. He entered the Air Force in August of 1953 and served until his retirement in February of 1982. During his military career he was assigned to Flight Test, FTD, ASD, Rocket Propulsion Laboratory, Security Service and the Flight Dynamics Laboratory. His survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marianne (Monnin) Doyle, sons Brian Doyle, of Dallas TX, and Barry (Pei-Chun) Doyle of Falls Church, Virginia; daughters M. K. Doyle of San Antonio TX and Sheila Doyle of Keller TX; four grandchildren: Jacob Tendy, Alex Tendy, Ciara Doyle and Evan Doyle; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Brest of Utica MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marianne Doyle Spangler and brother-in-law, Pete Spangler, his wife’s parents, Earl and Ruth Monnin, brothers-in-law, Denis Monnin and Carl Brest. Pat fell in love with flying as a teenager and never lost his keen interest in aircraft. After retiring from active duty, he enjoyed his years as an Air Force Museum volunteer at Wright-Patterson. He was a dedicated genealogist and family historian and served for 30 years at the LDS Family History Center in Fairborn. Friends may call at the Tobias Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 1:30-3:30 PM. The funeral will be held at 3:30 PM Friday. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
