Henry John Harning passed to his rest after a short illness Friday morning February 12, 2016 at his home in Centerville, Ohio. He was born April 17, 1929 in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late Joseph and Frieda Harning. He grew up in the east end of Dayton on North Delmar Avenue and graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1948. Dayton Power & Light employed him as a power lineman for 42 years. He served in the Army Signal Corps for 2 years during the Korean conflict.
Henry was married to Carol Fennig on February 6, 1954 who survives him after 62 years of marriage. They built a home in Centerville in 1955 where they raised five children: Patrick J. Harning (wife Desi), Jeffery W. Harning (wife Marcia), Cherie C. Thomas (husband Jon), Cynthia M. Mathias (husband Tim), Daniel T. Harning (wife Eunsook). They were blessed with13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also survived by step sister Virginia Beck (husband Richard), brother-in-law Ralph Fennig (wife Eunice), nephews Gary Fennig (wife Becky), Jim DeDario (wife Judy), niece Barbara Franz (husband Tom).
He enjoyed boating, water-skiing, fishing, and life-long bee-keeping. He also spent time helping his children and others with residential and commercial electrical work. He was a member of the Centerville Seventh-day Adventist Church. Henry was a loving, faithful husband and father, he awaits the blessed hope of the resurrection of the dead.
Visitation Thursday evening February 18, from 5-8pm at Tobias Funeral Home, Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, OH 45429 and funeral service Friday 11am February 19, at Centerville SDA Church, 456 W. Spring Valley Pike, Centerville, OH 45458, Pastor Winston Baldwin officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery.
