Hughes, Harold D. "Poppy", age 75, of Beavercreek, OH, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Hughes, Ruth and Leo Miller and a brother, Ricky Miller. He was born on August 6, 1939 in Sweetwater, IL. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Matilda Hughes; a son, Lowell (Susan) Patrick, of Kettering; 2 daughters, Karen (Allan) Puckett, of Miamisburg and Tinia (Steve) Cherry, of Franklin, TN; 7 grandchildren, Neal, Adam and Elyse Patrick, Aaron Puckett, Allayna (Austin) Puckett Fowler, Parker and Hunter Cherry. He is also survived by a half-sister, Marsha Eloot of TX; 2 half-brothers, Alan and Gregory Hughes of MI, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Harold was friend to many. He was a true lover of the military and was a decorated Vietnam Veteran with 22 years of devoted service in the United States Air Force. After retirement in 1994 from Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a civilian, he continued working at Wright Patterson for contractors and retired from Ball Aerospace in 2010. Since his retirement, he has been a volunteer at Simon Kenton and Arrowwood Elementary Schools in Xenia, where his daughter is a teacher. He attended Miamisburg Christian Church and supported missions. Harold will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and Poppy- a true family man and an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Fan. The family will receive friends at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015,at the Miamisburg Christian Church, 1146 East Central Avenue, Miamisburg, with Pastor Rich McKinley officiating. Additional visitation will be on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment with military honors will follow in Byron Cemetery in Fairborn, OH.
