Harold B. Harris, aged 82, of Beavercreek, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on August 24th, 1940, in Loyall, Kentucky to parents Harold B. Harris Sr. and Ruth S. Harris. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Billie C. Harris, and his brother, John R. Harris.
Harold is survived by his two daughters, Beth Green and spouse Bruce Green (of Beavercreek), and Kathy Mather and spouse Geoff Mather (of Cincinnati). He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Emma and Wesley Green (of Beavercreek), as well as his sister-in-law Kathy Harris (of Greenville SC).
As a young man in college, Harold felt the calling of the military and through hard work and determination, he earned an officer's commission in the United States Air Force, serving as Missile Launch Control Officer on the Minuteman II and later, as an Airborne Command and Control Crew Member during the height of the Cold War. In the 1970s, Harold transferred to the Ohio Air National Guard serving the last half of his career as a Logistics Officer with the 121st Air Refueling Wing. Harold retired as a Colonel after honorably serving his country for 30 years. He was awarded many medals, including the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal. While serving as a Traditional Guardsman with the 121st ARW, Harold also served as a GS-15 Program Manager for the Air Force Material Command at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. After retiring from these positions, he worked as Director of Operations for government contractor Sumeria for nearly five years. In life,
Harold was a longtime member of St. George’s Episcopal church of Kettering, and enjoyed many activities such as golf, and spending time in nature, as well as reading books taken from his vast home library. Harold Harris was an integral part of his close-knit family and will be missed every day.
