I was very sad to learn just yesterday of Jerry's passing.  I worked for Shafor-Johnson from 1986 through 1996.  Jerry taught me how to start a design with loose, broad strokes and refine incrementally.  That process carried me through my own career, and I'm so grateful.  I had great admiration for Jerry's integrity as a person and for his talent as an architect.  My deepest sympathies to his beloved wife, Judi.

In  late June  1977  I moved into a house on Hillmont Avenue in Dayton. It was an older neighborhood that backed up to the woods.  The funny thing was the house next door was a new build, contemporary in design, however, it had no windows! This was a bit interesting and a bit confusing as I walked around the structure.  Then the  week-end  of July 4th  a large vehicle (which looked like a racing car transport) pulled into the  driveway of the house without windows.  The moving  into the house without windows began. I still remember two very loud people calling each other Ralph...man I was even more confused...no windows and 2 Ralph’s!,,
That day was the beginning of a wonderful friendship....
The windows eventually appeared, the Ralph’s became Jerry and Judi. I have been so blessed having them in my life.

Jerry was the partner of my former partner Tom Shafor.
I met Jerry through Tom and found him to be a congenial,
pleasant person with a good sense of humor. I visited their office from time to time and had brief, pleasant  chats with Tom and Jerry. I also saw some of his work in the form of drawings, and saw that he was a talented architect.
Many years ago I sold him and Judi a lot in the City of Dayton on which they built a home, which was  very well designed,  that fit the lot well and blended with the neighborhood architecture nicely, a testament to his design skills.
A fine man, and a credit to his profession.

I had the pleasure of working with Jerry for many years.  He always seemed to be happy and was a joy to be around.   He will be missed.

I met Jerry in the early 1980’s. Our company worked with Jerry, and his partner Tom Shafor on many apartment projects, office buildings and single family homes throughout southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky and eastern Indiana. Jerry was a great architect and a good friend. My prayers are with  Jerry’s soul and Jerry’s dear wife, Judi. 
May God bless Jerry’s soul.
