George was born in the farming community of Van Buren, Ohio to Edward and Ardinelle (Poe) Kuhlman. After high school he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Philippines during WWII. After his service he attended Bowling Green University and then graduated from Ohio University with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1950. He began his engineering career at Delco Products in Dayton in January 1952 as a Junior Engineer and retired in July, 1984 as Manager, Manufacturing Engineering, Shocks. After retirement, George and Marlene enjoyed travel in their motor home, watching their granddaughters play basketball in Beavercreek, and fun summer family vacations with all of their children and grandchildren.
George was recently preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Marlene, who passed away in July 2020, daughter Donna Kuhlman, and grandson Benjamin Miura. Also deceased are his brothers Lynn and Glenn.
He is survived by his sons David (Jennifer) of San Diego and Philip (Judi) of Jamestown and beloved grandchildren Travis and Connor Kuhlman, Melissa (Josh) Hensley, Andrea (Spencer) Smith, Nicole (Kenny) Miller and Rachel (Ben Nicholson) Miura plus 6 great-grandchildren: Addyson and Xander Hensley, Taylor, Ariana and Everlee Smith, and Greyson Miller.
According to Marlene, George was noted for his questionable home improvements: a bird bath on the side of a tree (why not?!), a wench to lift heavy bags of salt to re-fill the water softener, and a mirror to see down the driveway from inside the house. He was also known for his meticulous filing system and his wry sense of humor which he maintained until the very end. He will be missed.
Receiving family and friends of George and Marlene at 10:00 AM on May 1, 2021, at the Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel. Private family service for both at 11:00 AM.
