DERR, George J. age 88, of Dayton, died Friday, September 2, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton. George was born on November 8, 1927 in Dayton to the late Ernest and Freda Hatfield Derr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine M. Derr and son, John A. Derr. He is survived by his son, Thomas C. (Katie, deceased) Derr; daughters, Connie (Michael) Tanner and Carol (David, deceased) Whitehead; grandchildren, Nicki Sanders, Eric Derr, Kaicha Schwartz, Josh Derr, Brittany Borunda, Jennifer Lopardo, Michael Tanner, Brian Whitehead, Samantha Gillette and Danielle Whitehead; twenty-one great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. George was a graduate of Wilbur Wright High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his Navy service he worked for International Tool Co. He and a partner then started Select Tool & Die. He was later Chairman and owner of Wren Industries Inc. and Jena Tool & Die. George was a past president of the Dayton Tooling and Machining Association (DTMA) and a member of the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA). George cherished the game of golf and was a member of Sycamore Creek Country Club, NCR Country Club and TPC Prestancia of Sarasota, Florida. He also enjoyed both fresh and salt water fishing and was an avid bowler. Gathering of family and friends from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45429, with a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Private interment will be in David's Mausoleum.
