He was born in 1935 to the late Adolphus and Beatrice (Seavey) Smith in Portland, Maine.
Francis was preceded in death by brothers Harrison Smith and Bill Smith. He is survived by
his long-time best friend and partner in life, Sharon Stolzenberger; sister-in-law Jeannine Smith of NC., nephew Ralph Smith (Theresa) of NC., niece Connie Meserve of TN.; and three grand-nephews, one grand niece, several great grand nieces and nephews, and Sharon's brothers Adam and Prian.
Francis earned his B.S. degree through the University of Cincinnati night school while working at Kroger. He also served in the National Guard Reserve.
Francis was a gifted painter and sculptor and was fortunate to use his artistic talents throughout his career. He worked in Cincinnati for Gibson Greeting Card Company as a packaging designer and later at Old World Restorations as an art restoration specialist. He was a former member of the Cincinnati Art Club and editor of its newsletter, The Dragonfly. His cast bronze sculpture, “Family Portrait” was included in an invitational exhibition at the Cincinnati Museum of Art in the early ‘80s. Upon retirement he moved to Dayton to live full time with Sharon Together their artistic skills and love of nature complemented each other and strengthened their long relationship. It is hard to imagine one without the other.
Francis was a man of uncompromised integrity with a highly principled philosophy of life. He was a man of his word, committed to doing what he promised, and his life reflects his determination to follow his heart as he lived his life of simplicity. His core beliefs were focused on the importance of art and nature in the world. His lifelong interests included fishing, hiking, opera, symphony, theater and the visual arts.
Memorial gifts for Francis may be made to a local arts organization of your choice. Purchasing a ticket for an art exhibit or performing arts event or buying artwork from an artist would further support the local arts community. Francis Seavey Smith would definitely agree.
A memorial celebration and gathering of family and friends will be Friday, April 28 from 5:00 to 6:30 with a short service from 6:30 to 7:00PM, Dr. Brian Newcomb officiating.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com for the Smith family.
