Born in Blanchester, Ohio on December 23, 1926, Floyd was the first child of Chester and Lillie Mae Gillespie Myers. He attended Martinsville High School where he was captain of the basketball team and where he met the love of his life, Netha Jean Roe. He graduated in 1945, enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Corporal in the 296th Military Police Company in Berlin where he was the recipient of the WWII Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal (Germany). After returning stateside, he married N. Jean Roe on January 25, 1947. He graduated in 1950 from Wilmington College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He held two masters’ degrees –one from Miami University and one from Wright State University. He was the youngest principal in the Dayton Public Schools at the age of 28 and remained in its employ for 40 years – most of them at Lincoln Elementary in East Dayton. He was a Boy Scout Leader and also very involved in the Dayton YMCA working evenings and summers at various youth camps. He and Jean raised their family in Beavercreek, OH and later moved to Mason Christian Village to enjoy their retirement years. He served on numerous boards in various leadership capacities including serving on the Board of Directors of Mason Christian Village in Mason, OH. He was an Elder and Sunday school teacher for over 50 years at Bethany Church of Christ in Kettering, OH. He was active in the community at Mason Christian Village for many years as a member of the veterans group, sang in two choirs, gardened, and always enjoyed the fellowship of the men’s monthly pancake breakfasts. Floyd leaves many family and friends – in particular his loving wife and best friend, Jean - who will greatly miss his positive and encouraging attitude, his fun and silly sense of humor, and his kind and caring ways. But we know that he is now enjoying the comradery of his brothers and is at peace with his Lord and Savior. Services will be held Tuesday, December 27th at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek, OH with Tom Moll officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30a.m. - 12:00p.m. with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be at Valley View Memorial Gardens, 170 Valley Road, Xenia, OH after the funeral service.
