MONNIN, Ernest Lloyd (Ernie), 76, of Oakwood passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015. Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Lynne (Davies) Monnin, his daughter Piper (Steve) Sauter, son Paul (Alicia) Monnin, grandchildren Jimmy, Mattie and Thomas Sauter, and Merryn, Jenna, and John Paul Monnin, and many other relatives including his sister- and brother-in-law Suzanne (Davies) and Paul Palumbo, his nieces Mary (George) Cartwright, Lisa (Peter) Steiner, and their children Julia, Paul, Molly and Beth Steiner. An only child, Ernie delighted in his children and grandchildren and friends. Ernie was born in Versailles, Ohio, the son of Verdice (Mangen) Monnin and Hubert Ignacious Monnin, who predeceased him. He graduated from Versailles High School and the University of Dayton, where he was a student tutor of varsity athletes and completed ROTC training. He received a Regular Army commission of Second Lieutenant as a distinguished military honoree. Ernie was an Eagle Scout and served as a First Lieutenant in Germany during the cold war. He then began a lengthy business career in sales, with GTE for 30 years in their special products division and with Thermodisk for the remainder of his career. Ernie will be remembered for his love of family, his courage, and his ability to enjoy life. He never lost his sense of humor, even during his long final illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church on Saturday, September 26 at 10:30 a.m. No formal visitation is planned before the Mass.
