MARTINEZ, Enrique C., M.D, of Springboro, Ohio, One of Dayton’s leading Orthopedic Surgeons for over 40 years, a humanist, a scholar and avid historical aficionado, originally from Cartagena, Colombia has died at the age of 82 in the early hours of Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. Following in his father’s footsteps as a Physician, Dr. Enrique Martinez immigrated to the United States in 1958, first serving as an attending physician at Shriners Hospital in Lexington, KY, relocating to the Miami Valley in 1965. He passionately served the Gem City community with pride and purpose, not only as a respected physician but also served as the acting team doctor for the Beavercreek HS football team and St. Henry’s football and soccer teams. He is described by his patients, family and friends as compassionate, full of integrity and deeply committed to his faith in God. He was born on September 19, 1932 in Cartagena, Colombia to the late Dr. Enrique and Regina Pereira Martinez. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Mary J. Warnecke Martinez; children, Patricia (Trish) Martinez; Angelina (Hina) Nicholson, Mario (Mar) Martinez, Maria (Ria) Martinez and grandchildren, Quinn and Reilly Nicholson and Son-in laws, Thomas Nicholson and Alessandro Ferraris. Before passing, Dr. Enrique Martinez wanted to thank the City of Dayton for allowing him to serve the people of Dayton to the fullest of his professional and personal abilities. Doing the right thing every single time was the only thing for him. His words “I want to tell the people of Dayton thank you for allowing me to take care of you”. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am with a pre-mass gathering at 9:00 am Monday, September 21, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 411 E. Second St., Dayton, Ohio 45402.
