Elaine Jean Reay

REAY, Elaine Jean (Hughes), 90, of Kettering went home to be with the Lord on Monday evening, November 17, 2014 at the Hospice of Dayton, where she had been admitted earlier that day. She had been in failing health since March 2014. She was born August 18, 1924 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to John Sanford and Idale Elizabeth (Van Antwerp) Hughes, one of three girls. She is the youngest to be born after her twin sister, Eilene and her older sister, Laura. Elaine grew up in the Lawton, Michigan area and attended Michigan State University for one year. On October 18, 1947 she was married at the Porter Methodist Church in Lawton, Michigan to Jack Delmar Reay of Dayton, Ohio. Elaine was formerly employed as a Unit Clerk at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Following her retirement, she served as a volunteer at Kettering Hospital.She was a longtime member of the Parkview Church of the Nazarene, and a former member of the Northridge Church of the Nazarene. During her leisure she enjoyed writing poetry; entertaining friends and family in her home and was known many years for sending cards on special occasions to family and friends. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Jack D. Reay; a son, Larry D. Reay and wife Gayle; a daughter, Denise (Reay) Million and husband Gene; two granddaughters: Beth Alfman and husband Nick and Sarah Van Zee and husband Andrew; one great-granddaughter, Avery Alfman; and one great granddaughter to be born in February; one sister: Eilene Summe and her husband Frank; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Parkview Church of the Nazarene, 4701 Far Hills Avenue, with visitation on Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Tobias Funeral Home-Far Hills Chapel 5471 Far Hills Ave at Rahn Rd.
