Smith, Donald L., age 67, of Riverside passed away at home on Thursday, July 28, 2011, after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease. He is preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Edna Faye Smith, parents, Woodrow and Goldie Mae Smith, a brother, Elwood and sister, Beaulah Gail Smith. He is survived by 2 daughters, Brenda S. Tacey and Debi L. Lieurance; one son, Larry W. Smith and an adopted daughter and granddaughter, Amber Smith. He is also survived by two sons-in-law, Jim Tacey and Darrell Lieurance; seven grandchildren, Jason Tacey, Charity Alexander, Jessica Stafford, Shane Tacey, Chelsea Tacey, Tyler Conley , Dylan Conley and seven great grandchildren. Donald loved traveling and I don’t think he ever went on a vacation that he didn’t take a few grandkids along! He was a wonderful, hardworking family man who dedicated his life to his wife , children and his job, but his true passion was playing the drums. He played in many bands over the years and had the great pleasure of playing drums for Jerry Lee Lewis, Margo Smith and local groups such as Donnie Bowser and his good friend, Gene Moser,to name a few. But, after many years he dedicated his life to only playing Gospel music. He was a strong, but “Humble” man, who gave and never asked for anything in return. Our hearts are broken knowing we can never see him here again, but we find strength in the Lord knowing that he is at Peace and reunited with his Bride and one day, we will see him again. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road. Interment will follow in Aley Cemetery, Beavercreek, OH. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2011. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.
