Donald George Rost, age 98, of Fairborn, Ohio went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at The Hospice House of Dayton. He was born on February 22, 1926 in Pleasant Hill, Il. The son of the late John and Edna (Birkey) Rost.
He graduated from East Peoria Community High School, and received his draft notice a week after graduation. He served in the United States Army in Washington State from 1944 - 1946. After discharge he graduated from Coyne Electrical College in Chicago. Donald worked as a service technician for most of his working life, eventually retiring from G.E., where he spent most of his career. He was also very entrepreneurial, running a side business, and investing in residential real estate.
He met Ruth Rapinchuk at a church retreat, and they were married on June 25, 1949. Donald was a long time member of Southgate Baptist Church, Springfield, Ohio. He also served at various churches as a deacon and in other roles over the years.
Donald is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Ruth Emily Rost, and brothers Robert and Kenneth Rost.
He is survived by his five children, David (Barbara) Rost of Fairborn, Ohio, Jeffery Rost of Greenville, South Carolina, Pastor Dennis (Jan) Rost of Byesville, Ohio, Karen (Mike) Tucker of Cedarville,Ohio, Ron (Pam) Rost of Rootstown, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, sister, Rebecca, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to Hospice of Dayton for their loving and compassionate care for Donald.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dayton Ave. Baptist Church, 1121 Dayton Ave., Xenia, Ohio 45385, with Pastor Jon Young and Donald's son, Pastor Dennis Rost, officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.
Burial will be held in Valley View Memory Gardens, Beavercreek, Ohio.
