February 6, 2024
Cindy was born on March 15th, 1963 in New Haven, CT to the parents of Robert Owen and Margaret
(Ranek) Owen. She graduated from Guilford High School, CT and then from Southern Connecticut State
University with a degree in Early Childhood Education – Magna Cum Laude.
Cindy is survived by her husband Jeff Emmel (30 years), son Connor. In addition, Margaret (Ranek)
Owen, Sisters Pam (Gretchen) & Sheila, and brother Peter (Erin). She was loved by her niece Cybele, nephews Henry, Devin, and Tyler. In addition, she was treasured by DT and Bro her wonderful cats. Cindy was preceded into heaven by her father Robert Owen (2021), XR (Golden retriever) probably covered a million miles walking everywhere the 11 years he was with us, and “Kitty” our 1st cat.
Cindy loved to smile, laugh, read, being outdoors regardless of the temperature, be at the ocean with toes in the sand and water, Nantucket, swimming, going to Keith Urban concerts, cuddle with DT & Bro. She had a strong passion in her heart working with children and they loved her enthusiastic energy. She cared deeply about everyone, always trying to help, lend her ears to listen, and be the peacemaker.
Early on she worked as a teacher, substitute teaching in the Centerville City Schools, Dayton, Ohio, Childcare centers (Mini University), Sunday school at St. Georges Episcopal Church in Dayton, Ohio. She was very engaged with St. George’s for many years volunteering on committees and during the most recent years also at The Castle in Centerville, Bible Study Fellowship, Bellbrook Sugarcreek Community Support Center in Bellbrook, Ohio and others.

Cindy is loved by many and is laughing, talking, and smiling with her father, her grandparents, XR, Kitty, and others celebrating eternal life in heaven. We love you.
A gathering of family and friends for Cynthia will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home - Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45429. Following the gathering of family and friends will be a memorial service at 3:00 PM at St George Episcopal Church, Far Hills Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45429
