SUTHERLAND, CHARLES SIDNEY “Chuck”, Age 74, of Kettering, passed away unexpectedly on July 21, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joyce, two daughters Karen MacLean (Dan) of Kettering and Jennifer Howell (Tom) of New Bremen, and a son, Jim, of Los Angeles. Five grandchildren, Mary Kate and Bob MacLean; Mackenzie, Ali and Katie Howell, whom he deeply loved and always had ice cream with them when they visited. A brother, William Sutherland (Nell) of Pittsburgh, brother-in-law, Joseph Jehl (Jeanne) of Annapolis. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents and beloved brother and sister-in-law, Ren and Marcia Sutherland of Pittsburgh. A graduate of Shady Side Academy, and Cornell University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Fraternity and sang bass with The Sherwoods, a men’s a cappella group. The Sherwoods reunited in 1998 and have continued to entertain audiences around the country raising money for a variety of charities. A former member of Southern Gateway Barbershop Chorus, and the Kettering Rotary Club, where in keeping with his love of music, was the Song Leader – ever ready with his pitch pipe. Following his career with Mellon Bank and Winters Bank, he was a Certified Financial Planner at Prudential, National City Securities and American Express. He served his country for 20 years in the Navy and Naval Reserves. A kind, compassionate man with a wonderful sense of humor, he will be greatly missed, but remembered fondly.
