Blackwell, Charles, Jr., age 83, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha M. (Ward) Kennedy. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sue Blackwell; his three daughters, Nadine and husband, Kurt Glaub, Alicia and husband, Kevin Sommers, Donna Blackwell; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Phillips and Georgia Kay Nelson; special life long friends, Vivian and Kenny Medlen; his grandchildren, Shawn and wife, Micah Brunello and family, Shane and wife, Kim Brunello and family, Charlie and wife, Barbie Brunello and family, Kyle and wife, Alyssa Sommers, David Sommers, Katie Kopotic, Taylor Kopotic and Edgar Glaub; 1 great grandson, Gavin Brunello and a great granddaughter on the way, Kenadie Sommers. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Charles retired after serving 20 years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 2800 and the Shamrock Club. He had also retired from Sears after 19 years of service as an auto mechanic. Among Charles' favorite pastimes were his grandchildren, fishing, boating and woodworking. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, from the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road. Interment will follow in Dayton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday.
