Charles William “Chuck” Barhorst died peacefully in his home on August 16 in Beavercreek, Ohio at the age of 72 after a long illness. His children will forever remember him as a kind and gentle father who encouraged them to pursue their dreams and goals. Charles is survived by his wife Rose; his son, Craig (Julie) Barhorst of Beavercreek, Ohio; his daughters Tina McGeehen and Cheryl (Steve) Meier of Atlanta, Georgia and grandchildren Taylor McGeehen and Jenna Meier of Atlanta, Georgia. Charles was born June 21, 1944 in Piqua, Ohio to Aloysius and Alma Barhorst. As a child he spent much of his youth at a cabin on land his parents owned along the Great Miami River. As such, much of his childhood was filled with fishing, hunting and spending time with friends at the cabin. In December 1963, while visiting his Uncle in the hospital, he met the love of his life, a nursing student named Rose Marie Kerby. A year later they were married and spent the next 51 years sharing life's many adventures together. After graduating high school, Charles enrolled in business school and went on to work for Monarch Marking. In the early 1970’s Charles started his first company, Barhorst Grilliot Incorporated (BGI Forms), with a long-time friend and business partner. Over the years BGI Forms became a recognized leader locally in the forms industry. During that same time he helped launched two other companies: Oregon Village Print Shoppe and GG&T - General Graphic and Typesetting. With the three companies, BGI Forms could control all aspects of their form production from sales to typesetting to printing. The three businesses were located in a historic building he owned in the Oregon Village area of Dayton. In the early 1990’s BGI Forms moved to a one level warehouse building on Keowee Street and the other two companies were sold. In his youth Charles was an accomplished guitar player but he enjoyed singing more than playing. When karaoke came on the scene he delved into it and made it his hobby. Over the years he bought various pieces of sound equipment, collected thousands of songs and would often provide karaoke entertainment at family events. He was a lover of the outdoors, a fan of Disney, a skilled craftsman. He was passionate about his family, politics, cars and music. He was a generous, witty, optimistic, hard working and dedicated person who will be greatly missed by friends, colleagues and family. Friends may call at the Tobias Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. on Thursday evening, August 18 from 5-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Luke Catholic Church on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10 AM with Fr. Terry Schneider, celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery following the mass.
