Catherine Rowady Hamilton, age 95, was born in Winchester, Kentucky the sixth of seven children to Rose and Alexander Rowady. After graduating from the University of Kentucky and studying Social Work at the University of Chicago, Catherine began her career in Child Welfare in Harlan, Kentucky. Upon her marriage to Samuel Hamilton, she moved to Beavercreek, Ohio where she raised her two children and was a substitute teacher in the Beavercreek Schools. She moved to Chicago in 2013 to be closer to her children and passed away in May of 2022 from COVID 19. She is preceded in death by her husband, her son Samuel N. Hamilton II. She is survived by her daughter, Julia Hamilton and son-in-law Adam King, her daughter-in-law Nancy Hamilton and her grandchildren Samantha Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton King, Lewis King, her brother Edward Rowady and many loved nieces and nephews.
Samuel Newton Hamilton, age 95, was born in Harlan County, Kentucky the eighth of nine children to Vira and James Hamilton. After serving in the pacific during WWII he returned to Kentucky to attend Eastern Kentucky University to study teaching. While at the university he began working on the construction for Parkwood Elementary and decided that he would like to teach at Beavercreek High School. Upon marrying Catherine Rowady, they moved to Beavercreek where Sam taught Industrial Arts for over 25 years. During that time he also served as a gymnastic coach, golf coach, and scoreboard operator. Active in the community, Sam was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Knights of Pythias and the Scottish Rite of Masons. When he retired he also volunteered countless hours at Miami Valley Hospital. He moved to Chicago in 2013 to be closer to his children, and passed away in January of 2018. He is preceded in death by his son Samuel N. Hamilton II and was survived by his wife of nearly 60 years Catherine; and by his daughter, Julia Hamilton and son-in-law Adam King, her daughter-in-law Nancy Hamilton and his grandchildren, Samantha Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton King, Lewis King.
An open house celebration of their lives will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at Tobias Funeral Home-Beavercreek Chapel 3970 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432.
