Catherine Elizabeth Altmeyer Collins

COLLINS, Catherine Elizabeth (Altmeyer), age 75, of Centerville passed away at home on December 9, 2016 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Grace (Watling) Altmeyer, and sister, Jacqueline Peterson. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Thomas Collins; daughter and son-in-law, April and Rolando Delgado of Centerville; step-son and his wife, Timothy and Sheila Collins of Bangor, ME; brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Joanie Altmeyer of Palm Harbour, FL, and brother, David Altmeyer of Sache, TX; grandson Cody Collins; granddaughters Ashleigh Collins, Isabella Delgado and Sophia Delgado; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She retired from the University of Dayton Research Institute where she was a Technical Librarian for more than 20 years. She was an avid knitter, an accomplished seamstress and a passionate gardener. She was a fabulous cook and a wonderful baker and was affectionately named “Grandma Cookie” by her grandkids in Maine because as toddlers, she tried to bribe them to say “Grandma” by offering them one of her delicious homemade cookies. She was a fun-loving lady with a witty personality and will be missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Visiting Angels of Centerville and Hospice of Dayton for the loving and compassionate care they extended to Cathy during her illness. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Cathy’s life will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 4:00-6:00 p.m. at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, OH 45429. A Memorial Mass in celebration of her life will be held at St Leonard’s Faith Community, 8100 Clyo Road, Centerville, OH 45458 on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Dayton Chaper, 31 W.
