FRANTZ, Carolyn Madonna (Wendeln), Age 79 of Kettering, passed away January 5, 2024 at Hospice of Dayton after a short hospital stay and long battle with various illnesses. Carolyn was born December 31, 1944 in Dayton, Ohio. She was a 1959 graduate of St. Mary’s grade school, a 1963 graduate of Julienne High School and a 1968 graduate of the University of Dayton. In addition to her parents Clifford and Dolores Wendeln and her twin sister Connie Grosjean just two weeks prior, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James and their infant son Doug.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter Cindy (Bill) Ryan of Beavercreek and son Brian (Debra) Frantz of Columbus; four grandchildren, Troy Frantz and Natalie, Addie, and Sophia Ryan; sisters Sr. Mary E. Wendeln C.PP.S and Janet (Gary) Woodall of Dayton; Margie (Dan) O’Neil of Columbus; and brother Thomas Wendeln of Dayton. She is also survived by numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carolyn was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years in the Dayton area. She began her career at Immaculate Conception School and then, after a brief break to start a family, returned to teaching at Ascension School. Upon her retirement, she was recognized for 35 years of service to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati schools. After retiring from teaching, she continued to tutor students in the area. She adored her grandchildren and was willing to babysit and watch their various activities whenever she was able. She was an avid sports fan as a 50+ year season ticket holder for Dayton Flyers Men’s Basketball Team, an Ohio State Football fan and a Cleveland Browns fan. Carolyn was also a member of the Christ Child Society of Dayton.
Family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton - Xenia Road. The family will also receive friends Friday, January 12, 2024 at The Church of the Ascension, 2025 Woodman Drive, Kettering, Ohio 45420, starting at 10:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. The family asks that those who wish to can make a donation to the Michael J.
