JOHNSON, Alvin James (Jim) passed away peacefully on September 3,2024 after a lengthy illness. He worked for General Motors Corporation for 30 years as a Draftsman until his retirement in 1988. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army/Air Force National Guard after 6 years and six months as a security guard. Born on April 4,1939 in Cleveland OH to the late William E. and Lydia Piper Johnson, Jim spent his early years in Dayton and Kettering, OH. He graduated from Fairmont High School where he was an active member of the Dragons Marching Band. It was here that he developed a love and skill for playing the trombone. Jim went on to play for the NCR Band in Dayton OH and several other dance and church bands in later years. Second only to his skill on the trombone was his love of the outdoors. Whether it was golfing, hunting, fishing, searching for mushrooms, working in his yard or just walking the neighborhood, Jim enjoyed plenty of fresh air and sunshine in his life. He is survived by his wife, Nancy E. of Waynesville, OH; daughter, Julie Laurent of Kettering, OH; son, Jay Johnson of Merritt Island, FL; granddaughter, Ashley Laurent of Kettering, OH; and brother, Gerald W. (Ann) Johnson of Cary, GA.
