Richard (Dick) Wesley Sweet passed away on August 7, 2016 at Lincoln Hospital in Davenport, Washington. He was born in Masury, Ohio on January 20, 1930 to John L. and Elizabeth (Sewall) Sweet. He grew up in New Castle, PA. During the Korean War, he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army with the 67th Medium Tank Battalion of the Second Armored Division in Germany. He came to the state of Washington in 1954, residing first in Odessa then in Harrington. Richard married Aileen Wagner on February 9, 1963. He was a proud and loving father to Curtis (Yevette) and Craig (Debbie). He was a devoted grandfather to Brad, Cody and Ryan Sweet and Brandi (Randy) Walter. He is also survived by three step grandchildren, Derek, Alyshia, and Travis, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He accepted Jesus Christ on November 28, 1973. He was a past member of the Harrington United Methodist Church where he served on many committees and was a lay speaker. He served as President of Lincoln County United Methodist men. He was currently an active part of the Harrington Community Church. He served more than 25 years on Lincoln County Fire District #6 and worked on numerous community projects. He had a love for woodworking and made beautiful things for family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dreda Sweet and Thalia Tooley and brother William Sweet. Dick loved his family and was always there to help when things needed to be done. A very special time for his was the wedding of granddaughter Brandi to Randy Walter. Visitation for Richard will be held at Strate Funeral Home on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Harrington Community Church at 11:00 a.m. with Tony Hamilton officiating.
