Philip (Phil) Wayne Borst was born to Paul and Edna (Leonard) Borst in Grand Coulee, Washington on January 27th, 1941. He spent his childhood in Coulee City, where he graduated from Coulee City High School in 1959, and became a lifelong member of the Freemasons of Washington. Following high school he proudly attended the University of Washington, graduating with a Bachelor in Economics in 1963, and a Juris Doctor in 1966. He returned to Eastern Washington, where he raised a family with Anita (Miller) Borst, and opened his own practice. In 1967 he became an Adams and Lincoln county prosecutor, and in 1988 his lifelong dream became a reality when he was elected as a judge to the Lincoln County Superior Court, a position he proudly held until his retirement in 2008. He enjoyed his later years at Blue Lake, boating, fishing, and feeding the deer with his beloved wife, Mary (Casperson) Borst. Phil was an accomplished lawyer, prosecutor, and judge, but his favorite role was that of doting father, grandfather, and husband. No one was a stranger to Phil and he will be missed by many. For those who were lucky enough to know and love Phil, we’ll miss his love, laughter, mischief, and kindness. But most of all, we will miss his stories. No one could tell a story like Phil, and he sure did have a lot of stories to tell. He lived a life full of determination, compassion, and adventure, and passed peacefully on April 9th, 2024, with his best friend, and the light of his life, Mary, by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Edna Borst, his brother Doug Borst, his wife Anita (Miller) Borst, and his daughter Rhonda (Borst) Sallis. He is survived by his wife Mary (Casperson) Borst, his brother Bruce and wife Evadenye Borst, his daughter Becky and husband Scott Kuch, and his son Eric and wife Nadya Borst, as well as three step daughters, six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and countless friends and family. At Phil’s request there will be no formal service. Those wishing to honor Phil can make a donation in his name to the incredible hospice nurses that helped give him peace and comfort in his final days, Heartlink Hospice (204 W. 2nd Street. Grandview, WA 98930).
