At the age of 98, Elaine (Warwick) Morse passed away peacefully on August 27, 2015. She was born to Denny and Mary (Timm) Warwick on March 8, 1917, at their home north of Davenport, WA. She lived her entire life in Lincoln County, mostly in Harrington.
After attending several years of grade school at the one-room Cold Springs School, Elaine graduated from Harrington High School in 1934. She continued her education at Washington State College (now WSU) where she joined Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Elaine then started working at the Harrington Old National Bank, a career she returned to after her children were grown, until she retired in 1982 after 17 years.
On June 18, 1938 Elaine married Floyd “Sparky” Morse of Edwall, and started her life as a homemaker and farmer’s wife. Together they raised three children (son Courtney, and daughters JoAnn and Patty) on the farm where she herself was raised, five miles east of Harrington. The couple farmed in Lincoln County for 38 years, first at the Morse family farm near Edwall, then at the Warwick family farm which Elaine’s grandparents, Horace Maynard and Sarilda Warwick, had homesteaded in 1888. In 1976 Floyd retired from active farming and the couple moved to Harrington. At that time, their son, Courtney, assumed responsibility of the farming operation. Floyd and Elaine celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1988, a year before Floyd passed away.
Elaine’s family was her pride and joy, the center of her universe. She was active in all of her children’s activities, serving as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Den Mother, Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader, Rainbow Girls Mother Advisor, as well as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was an active member of the Harrington Community Congregational Church, where she was treasurer for 20+ years, and continued to update the membership book (which is kept at City Hall), recording marriages and deaths of members.
Elaine was a member and Worthy Matron of the Davenport Order of the Eastern Star, a life-long member of the Daughters of the Nile, as well as a 50 year member of Bluestem Grange and a 75 year member of her college sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. She had a perfect attendance record at the Harrington High School Alumni banquets for 33 years (from 1980 thru 2012) and received the award for oldest HHS alum for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge, working in her yard, e-mailing with family and friends (which she started doing when she was 82 years old), and, especially in her later years, talking on the telephone!
Elaine will be remembered for her amazing memory, her strong work ethic, her kindness to others, and her mocha log cakes!
Elaine is survived by her son Courtney Morse in Harrington, WA, and daughters JoAnn (Jack) Evans in Richland, WA and Patricia (Jim) Felton in Bend, OR. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lindsey Morse in Macon, GA, Carly Morse (Brent Freeman) in Lincoln, NE, Ami (Joe) Miller in Denver, CO, Jeff Evans in Denver, CO, Greg (Ann) Felton in Seattle, WA, and Melinda (Scott) Johnson in Redmond, WA. Elaine is also survived by her great-grandchildren Sabin and Niah Miller in Denver, CO, Greta and Jaeger Felton in Seattle, WA, and Mylie and Lila Johnson, in Redmond, WA, along with numerous Timm, Warwick, Sawyer and Morse relatives.
