Passed away January 20, 2022 at Lincoln County Hospital, Davenport, WA. Penny was born July 30, 1937 in Clayton, WA to Elwood and Opal Marshall. She joined her sister, Shirley Largent-Bly and they were later joined by brother Dick Pooler and sister Jackie Ross. As Penny & Shirley’s father traveled a lot to find work and his family moved with him, Penny attended several Washington public schools including Republic, Keller, & Wilbur. Throughout her life, Penny was a happy, funny “Free Spirit” who loved living life to the fullest by traveling, camping, dancing, playing music, painting, collecting rocks, yard sales, and much more. Penny never let a clock or calendar dictate her time or schedule and never met a stranger, much like her mother, Opal. She was known for her “endless” stories and never could say goodbye. Penny and Shirley were known everywhere as “The Sisters”, as they were inseparable. Most of all, Penny loved her family and friends and they truly loved her. Many, many people called her “Aunt Penny”.
Penny married Santiago “Sandy” Arrieta in 1957, raising their family on Manilla Creek Rd, south of Keller. She made pets of all farm animals, lambs, calves, ducks, chickens, piglets, all ending up in the house eventually. Penny babysat for local families, having a love for babies and children. In 1961, Penny and Sandy started driving kids to school for the Keller school district and she drove the Keller bus until the late 1980s. Penny also was the Keller school cook a few years. She drove bus for the Lake Roosevelt School District and was a CNA at the Coulee Community Hospital.
Penny and Sandy divorced in the early ‘90s, Penny moved to Electric City and later to the Umatilla, Oregon area, where she drove bus and did in-home health care. She moved to Creston in 2002, making it her home for the last 19 years. She resided at Vista Manor in Wilbur for the past 3.5 years. Penny moved and lived in many places in her life, but her heart was always in Keller.
Penny is survived by her four children Linda (Jay) Fisher, David (Margaret) Arrieta, Juli (Jeff) Sliger and Ray (Sue) Arrieta, along with her 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, sisters Shirley and Jackie along with numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Penny is preceded in death by her parents Elwood and Opal, brother Dick and an infant brother. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Keller Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.strate-funeral.com for the Marshall family.
