She has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, she has kept the faith. She laid down her frail body and Jesus carried her "home".
Winnie was born Jan. 3, 1922 in St. Paul, MN. Her greatest love was for her Savior, Jesus Christ, who she served her whole life. Winnie's family held a close second in her heart and she cherished each family gathering. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed making dried flower arrangements, generously giving them as gifts to shut-ins.
After graduation from Central High School, Winnie joined the Navy as a "Wave", serving during WWII, and was honorably discharged. She was actively involved in the Dale Carnegie public speaking courses, becoming an instructor for the Dorothy Carnegie course.
Winnie married the love of her life, Vern Johnson, in 1951, and together they raised 4 children. God blessed them greatly with 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Winnie was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline, IL and also the United Methodist Women Society, devoting herself to various bible studies. She and Vern loved to bring joy to the shut-ins by delivering sermon tapes and church bulletins.
Throughout her adult life, Winnie was a proud life-long member of the American Legion. She also served as board member to the Tri-City Symphony and was active in Clara Lodge #118. She enjoyed serving the community as a Welcome Wagon hostess and Avon representative. She demonstrated great interpersonal expertise working for many years as the Office Manager and Placement Specialist for Manpower, Inc.
Preceeding her in death are her parents, William and Ida Zoschke; her loving husband, Vern; her twin brother, William; daughters-in-law, Diana Johnson and JoAnn Johnson; and granddaughter, Erika Spengler.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Kim Wulf (Rick); Sandra Gard
(Geary); Ross Johnson; Mark Johnson (Roxanne), along with her loving extended family and friends.
