William “Bill” R. Walker, 65, passed away unexpectedly on September 16, 2023 at his home. A funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2023 at Weerts Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and conclude at the time of service. Cremation will take place following the service. Memorial contributions may be left to the family.
Bill was born on April 3, 1958 in St. Paul, Minnesota to parents Gertrude (Sanders) and William Asker Walker. Bill’s mother passed when he was young so he was brought up by his step-mother, Eulla Walker. He grew up in Chicago Heights, where he attended and graduated from Bloom High School. He later moved to Davenport and worked as an Equipment Operator at Arconic. He worked at Arconic for over 20 years and was a proud Union Steward with USW.
In 1992, by divine circumstance, Bill met his soulmate, Debra Davis. Their lives’ became forever intertwined and their families grew. They spent many loving years together before getting officially married on December 26, 2013.
Friends, family, and especially the grandkids are what brought Bill the most joy in his life. Together with Debra, he enjoyed many trips to Chicago where they visited friends and family. Bill was known for his outgoing personality. His vibrant presence will be missed beyond words.
Those left to carry on Bill’s memory include his soulmate, Debra; children, Ronald Walker Jr., Byron Walker; step-children, Ranisha Parson, Latisha Davis, Ward Davis; ten grandchildren; sister, Jean Smith-Woodruff; six brother-in-laws; one sister-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews, and so many more folks who knew and loved Bill.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and William, and his step-mother, Eulla Walker.
