Bill was born in Maquoketa, IA on April 3, 1935. He was the son of Edward and Charlotte (Alden) Longman. He was a 1953 graduate of Davenport High School. He served in the Army from 1953-1956 as an Army Radio Broadcaster. He witnessed 27 atomic bomb tests while serving in the Pacific on the Island of Anaweetak. Bill also served in the Air Force from 1961-1964 as a radio broadcaster and while stationed in Madrid, Spain, interviewed several film starts who were with the Bob Hope USO show.
Bill worked at several local radio stations including KSTT in Davenport, WHBF in Rock Island, IL and KMAQ in Maquoketa, IA along with stations in Muscatine and Cedar Rapids.
After broadcasting, Bill did maintenance work for the Davenport School system. When he retired, he worked as a volunteer reading instructor, helping kids with disabilities. He served as an usher and various other capacities at his church, the Metropolitan Community Church. He also loved collecting records and his favorite music was from the “Big Band” era.
Those left to honor his memory include his siblings: Sue (VJ) Steining, Davenport, Tom (Jody) Longman, Silvis, IL an Nancy (Joe) Kueter, Bellevue, IA along with numerous nieces and nephews. His parents and a sister, Mary Pierson preceded him in death.
