Walter "Walt" John Figg

Walter Figg, 93, of Davenport, Iowa passed away peacefully Monday Oct 15, 2018 at Clarissa Cook Hospice House surrounded by family. Celebration of life services will be 10:30am Friday October 19, 2018 at Weerts Funeral home Kimberly and Jersey Ridge Roads, with family greeting friends from 9:30 to time of service. Interment will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.

Walt (Bud) was born in 1925 in Iowa City to Dr. John & Elsie (Hall) Figg. He grew up in Iowa City. He married Martha Francis in 1951 sharing 67 years together.

He left High School to join the Navy in 1943 where he served 3 ½ years. After his service he attended the University of Iowa where he met Martha. He received his BA degree in business finance graduating in 1950.

Walt worked at Bendix Aviation for 4 years. Then was employed for 30 years as a Dept. & Sales Manager with Ford Motor Co., Dearborn, MI, working out of their Davenport office. He was retired for 34 years.

After retirement, Walt and Marty spent 28 winters at their condo in Bradenton, FL and summers at their home in Davenport. He was an avid golfer in both places getting a Hole-in-One at their golf course in Florida.

Walt is survived by his wife Martha, daughter Lynne (Tim) Thompson of Bettendorf, IA, son Jay of Davenport, sister Neva Haman of Iowa City, and one beloved granddaughter Kelly Thompson whom he cherished.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Kenny Figg, Nora Dobbe and Doris Bartlett.
