Thelma E. Woods, the daughter of Jonas Lewis and Mary Bell Lewis was born March 24, 1924 in Akron, OH. Thelma answered the call of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on September 30, 2021 in Burlington, IA.
Thelma was educated in the Akron, OH school District. Thelma often spoke of her childhood, with her parents and siblings. Thelma relocated from Akron, OH to New York with her brother Ralph. The next relocation with her brother Ralph to the Quad Cities, would prove to be life changing in many ways.
After her relocation to the Quad Cities, Thelma was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and received the Holy Ghost under the Pastoral leadership of Bishop A. L. Boyd. Thelma married Vernon Woods in 1962. He passed September 27, 1998. From this union four children were born: Aaron, Michele, Faith and Maurice. Thelma worked at the State Hospital in East Moline, IL and retired after many years of service from Sears. Throughout the years she was a proud homemaker utilizing the carpentry skills she learned from her father, she enjoyed making small repairs around the home. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, and taking classes to master her stain glass hobby. Thelma enjoyed cooking, and was known for her apple cake and zucchini bread. When she wasn't cooking, she could be found reading a good book. She was very crafty, enjoyed making book marks, and loved playing the harmonica.
Later in life, Thelma relocated with her family to Des Moines, IA under the Pastoral Leadership of the late Bishop Jeremiah Reed. Thelma loved the Lord, praying, reading her bible and attending church. She was a member of Apostolic Holiness Temple, Burlington, IA.
Thelma was preceded in death by her Husband, Mother and Father, Brothers: Jonas Jr., Jethro, Clarence, Ralph, Sister’s: Ollie and Della; and Son Aaron Woods.
She leaves many other family members, church family and friends to cherish their rich memories of her: including children, Norman Culver, California; Michele Woods, Johnston, IA; Faith Morrow, Burlington, IA, Maurice Woods, Johnston, IA and Glenda Woods, Indianapolis, IA. Grandchildren: Shanae Woods, Kenmorie Woods, Elaine Morrow, Brandon Woods, Shanae Washington, Carmen Hall, Christopher Culver, Mathew Culver,Maurice Woods, Erin Morrow, Zachery Woods and a host of great grandchildren.
