Sidney D. Hoy

Sidney D. Hoy, 65, of Davenport, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Genesis West Medical Center. Services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be from 4-7PM Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to The Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. Sidney Dennis Hoy was born on April 13, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA, the only child of Cyrus Earl and Bonita (Osborn) Hoy. He graduated in 1963 from Davenport West High School. Sid and Beverly Eckenrod were married on September 16, 1967 in New Hampton, IA.

Following high school graduation, Sid worked at Roemer Machine in Davenport before completing a 4-year Tool and Die Apprenticeship with Swan Engineering in Bettendorf. He retired from Swan in 2008 with 42 years of service.

Sid took great pride in his yard and cars and enjoyed his Tuesday morning breakfast buddies.

Though well known for his colorful use of the English language, Sid was a loving and caring husband; a devoted father; and proud Papa to his two precious grandsons.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Beverly; his daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Rick Kirby and grandsons, Hunter and Hudson, Davenport; in-laws Jim and Julie Eckenrod and Linda and Joe Koenigsfeld, New Hampton; Rhonda Fleming, West Richland, WA; Sue Wussow, Bradley, IL; Craig and Alice Eckenrod, Jessup, MD; Al and Eileen France Eckenrod, Poulsbo, WA and several nieces, nephews and their families.

Sid was preceded in death by his parents; six aunts; several cousins; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Pauline Eckenrod.
