Sherry Lynn Patterson passed away in her home on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. She was born in Muscatine, Iowa on December 28, 1945. She grew up the daughter of a loving mother, Grayce Darting-Squires. In 1962, Sherry married Ron Patterson. The couple shared a loving partnership for 57 years and raised a daughter, Roxann and a son, Chad, in Davenport.
Sherry’s memory can best be described through the words of her grandchildren: Her grandson, Luke, remembers her as “a lover of animals, family, and the beauty of the world around her. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and a bright, warm light in a troubled world. Her concerns were never fixed on selfish or material causes, rather she embraced life’s beautiful things. Sherry could often be found enjoying her back yard on warm summer days, a sanctuary for birds and all sorts of critters, or around her table enjoying the company of her beloved family and neighbors. She cherished compassion and kindness above all else, and her legacy will forever live on in those who knew and loved her, and who wish to follow in her footsteps of peaceful simplicity and love for family and life above all else.”
Sherry’s granddaughter, Morgan, recalls, “I remember any time I ever needed her, she would squeeze my hand and rub my back to assure me that I would be okay. I would do anything she asked me to; I was happy to help. She made the best food, and she truly was an angel on earth.”
Granddaughter Lexi says, “She was my person. Someone I knew that no matter what was going on or what I did, she never stopped loving me. She was honestly the glue to everything. The woman never stopped going and dreaming even when she knew it was harder than she thought. Even though she isn’t going to be able to see me graduate, I know she will be watching me from above, telling me how much she loves me and how she couldn’t be more proud to be my Nana. Once I walk across the stage, I’ll hear her in that crow voice of hers saying, ‘You did it, Lulu!’”
Per Sherry’s request, no services will be held. It was her wish that family hold a celebration of her life, complete with laughter and music; this will take place at a later date.
Those surviving to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Ronald; children, Roxann (Brian McKee) and Chad; grandchildren, Luke Adamson, Morgan Adamson, and Lexi Patterson, along with Amy Groth and Kevin McKee; brother, Marty (Sharon) Squires, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and also her beloved life-long best friend, JoEllen.
She was preceded in death by her mother, and her beloved “Gram”, Olga Schwinn-Darting.
Sherry’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Jody Grebner, for going above and beyond in her care of the family.
