Sharon was born on February 4, 1943, the daughter of Jack and Marjorie (Bryant) Crabbs, in Davenport, IA. On November 24, 1962, she was united in marriage to Lanny A. Hickenbottom, to whom she was married for almost 25 years. Her parents owned and operated Austin Crabbs Furniture, where she first worked to learn the trade. She then went on to work in furniture sales at several other stores in the area. Sharon also taught private swimming lessons for over 40 years, was a Girl Scout leader for 15 years, and a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church in Davenport.
In her younger years, she spent time with her family at the Lindsay Park Yacht Club and the Outing Club in Davenport. As a mom, she enjoyed spending time with her children in nature, and loved camping, fishing and horseback riding. Most recently, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and supporting them in all their activities.
No matter how you knew her, she affected your life; she was a warm and outgoing person who never met a stranger—she always made you feel comfortable and loved.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Susan Hickenbottom of Ann Arbor, MI, and Leslie (Sara) DeLaere of Davenport, IA; son, Jim (Dawn) Hickenbottom of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Adam Senatra, Ella Hickenbottom, Kate Hickenbottom, Ryker DeLaere, Austin DeLaere, and Bennett DeLaere; sister, Sandra Anderson of Eagan, MN; sister-in-law, Heidi Crabbs of Fullerton, CA; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Zippy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Jack Crabbs, Jr.
