Bob and Sandy were both born in Davenport. Bob on February 4th, 1948 and Sandy on April 13th, 1948. They met in high-school, marrying on October 21st, 1967. They raised two loving sons, and many standard poodles and doodles throughout their life together.
Bob served in the United States Navy, with a combat-heavy tour of duty in Vietnam. He sustained multiple injuries, receiving two Purple Hearts. Bob is probably most well known for his time at the helm of Mississippi River Boat Works. He was an avid boater and member of the Lindsay Park Yacht Club.
Sandy devoted her life to raising their sons. She spent countless hours on the water with them when they were younger and loved to share funny stories of various situations they’d gotten themselves into. Her gardens were the "best ever" (one of her favorite phrases). Their home is the showcase of her creativity and Bob's hard work.
Those left to honor their memory include their two sons, Christopher McClanahan (Laura Curtis) and Dana McClanahan, both of Davenport, as well as their dogs Sunday Rose, Sam, Cassidy and Beth Ann. They are also survived by Bob's sister, Jane McClanahan (Dennis Byerly) and special family friend Norma (George) Heninger.
They were preceded in death by their parents and siblings. Robert's parents, Allen McClanahan and Jean Smith, and sister Sally Roach. Sandra's parents, Melvin and Mary Petersen, and brother Danny Petersen.
Following their wishes, cremation will take place through Runge Mortuary and Crematory. There will be a private celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials honoring their lives can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or Albert's Dog Lounge Rescue. Online condolences at www.rungemortuary.com.
