Ruth J. Carstens

Ruth J. Carstens, 89, of Davenport, passed from this life Wednesday, March 5, 2014 into the loving arms of her Lord. Visitation will be Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 3-5 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Funeral services will be Monday, March 10, 2014 at 10:00 am at The Runge Mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to CASI or the American Cancer Research. Ruth J. Andrews was born June 22, 1924 in Buffalo Township, IA to Arthur and Ellen (Braun) Andrews. In 1940 she married Frederick (Fritz) J. Carstens in Davenport; he preceded her in death.

Together they farmed in Linwood until 1966. She lived briefly in the early 1970’s in Arizona until she realized she couldn’t live without her grandchildren. She retired after working for more than 15 years at the Good Samaritan Nursing Homes in 1990.

Ruth loved playing bingo on Tuesdays and Fridays; watching the Cubs on tv and spending time with her family and photographing her grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her sister, Lorraine Dawson, daughter, Janice Hubbard, West Liberty, IA; son, Gerry (Patty) Carstens, Calamus, IA; grandchildren: Phil (Laura) Hubbard, Robyn (Lonnie) Nebergall and Todd (Reba) Carstens; great grandchildren: Blake, Derek, Jordan, Taylor, Blair and Dalton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter, Sharon (Babe), brother, Joe (Artie) and a sister, Betty Kammer, and son-in-law, Dan Hubbard.
