Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, 500 W. LeClaire, Eldridge, with visitation one hour prior. Additional visitation will also be held from 4-7 PM, Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Runge Mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the church. Ruby was born on January 11, 1924 in Mt. Joy, Iowa, the daughter of Walter G. and Lavonna (Lage) Poppe. She married Herbert Paustian on February 20, 1949. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1995.
She was a hardworking farm wife as well as the book keeper for the family farm. Ruby and her husband made a good team working on the farm. She very much enjoyed her farm neighbors and card clubs. Ruby was a very family-oriented, independent and strong woman. Her big claim to fame was her appearance as the “Chicken Lady” in the LeClaire, Iowa Welcome Center slide show.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in- law; Harold and Mary Paustian, Big Lake, MN; grandchildren: Sally Paustian, St. Paul, MN, and Joel Paustian, Santa Barbara, CA. She is also survived by her sister, Ethel Arp of Eldridge, Iowa as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three siblings; Robert and Loyd Poppe, and an infant sister.
