Ron was born May 29, 1943, to Robert and Helen (Dietz) Solt in Columbus, OH. He graduated in 1966 from Ohio State University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Ron then earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University in 1971. He later earned his B.A.I. Certified Bank Auditor (CBA) certification.
On March 14, 1981, Ron was united in marriage to Norita (Hinchee) Darrah in Mattoon, Illinois. Together they raised their blended family of four with love. While living in Mattoon, Ron was the General Manager of Superior Equipment. He continued his career as an Executive Vice President of Operations and Chief Financial Officer of Sears Manufacturing in Davenport, Iowa. Most recently, Ron worked as a CBA (Certified Bank Auditor), Vice President and Chief Audit Executive for River Valley Bancorp, Inc.
He was incredibly passionate about and active in several educational institutions. He served on the board of directors for Eastern Iowa Community College, taught business and economics courses at Scott Community College as well as at Saint Ambrose University. Ron was also the director of the Quad City Area Labor Management Research Institute (QCALM) at St. Ambrose. Additionally he volunteered as an instructor with Junior Achievement.
Ron was also very active with many organizations: he was a 1976 Outstanding Young Man of America, a volunteer firefighter in the 1970s while living in Osage Beach, Missouri, served on the Board of the Iowa Selective Service, was a member of The Presidents Association, Board Member of the ONE Foundation (Opportunities Never Ending), and graduated from the Bettendorf Citizens Academy.
Ron’s faith was very important to him, as a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Davenport where he served as a Deacon, an Elder, a Stephens Minister and was on the financial committee. He was proud to be a licensed airplane pilot, a nine-gallon blood donor, and of his run for Bettendorf City Council in 2009.
Ron greatly enjoyed fishing, making annual trips to Canada with his fishing buddies. He liked bowling and golfing, but most importantly cherished spending time with his beloved wife, Norita, his kids and grandkids. Despite Ron’s stroke nine and a half years ago, he kept a positive and determined outlook on life, striving to live his life to the fullest.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Norita; children: Robert (Dana) Solt of Muscatine, IA, and Amy (Mike) Henson of Osage, IA; stepchildren: Mark Darrah of Greenfield, WI, and Kristen (Jay) Rupple of Brighton, CO; grandchildren: Brandon Crane, Matt Henson, Ally Henson, Megan Henson, Ryan Solt, Jon Solt, Sarah Solt, and James Solt; his siblings, Janet (Jim) Brown and Beverly Carpenter, and an aunt, Betty Cooper.
