Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, January 21st, at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, January 20th, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
Ron was born in Davenport, Iowa, on August 17, 1951, to Harold J. and Muriel (Hansen) Wohlwend. Ron graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1969 and completed a millwright apprenticeship at Blackhawk Community College.
Ron married Cheryl Lang on June 3, 1972, at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church. He worked as a machine repairman at John Deere Davenport Works, Mount Joy, Iowa, retiring after 30 years on July 19, 2006.
Ron had a passion for music and for several years he played guitar in local bands, Union Station and Back Issues. He was also one of the founders of the Greater Iowa Scholarship Bowling Club.
Ron was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Prior to his illness, Ron was a member of the John Deere Bowling and Golf Leagues. He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Cheryl; son, Scott Wohlwend, Bettendorf, Iowa; grandsons, Austin Cunningham and Kolton Wohlwend; brother, Richard J. (Chris) Wohlwend, Bettendorf, Iowa, and sister, Renee J. (Tom) Davis, Port Richey, Florida; mother-in-law, Barbara J. Lang, Bettendorf, Iowa; sisters-in-law, JoAnn McDonnell, and Frankie (Robbie) Grant; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the healthcare professionals at Genesis East Medical Center, Genesis Cancer Center, Genesis Health Group, and Select Specialty Hospital for the compassionate care provided during Ron’s illness.
