Roger was born on May 25, 1978, and he grew up in Anamosa. He attended Anamosa high school where he played basketball, football, and graduated with the class of 1997. After high school, Roger started his career as a heating and cooling technician, becoming one of the best in the trade. Roger was most proud of his two boys Hunter and Austin. He loved going fishing and went on numerous trips with his sons. He took pride in yard maintenance and appreciated a well-manicured lawn. Roger could always be found around a TV or at a game when the Iowa Hawkeyes played football or basketball and he was a loyal Cincinnati Bengals fan. Roger had a quick wit and sense of humor that always entertained those around him. He was a helpful friend and neighbor to many in his lifetime, was considered someone who would ‘give the shirt off his back’ and will be greatly missed by his sons, family, and friends.
Roger is survived by his sons, Hunter and Austin; mother, Barbara; siblings, Bert (Michelle), Beth (Bryan), Matt (Cody), Mari, Jon, Josh, and Anna; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Roger is preceded in death by his father Richard L. Zimmerman. Roger’s two sons plan to hold a celebration of life at a later date.
